Rumblings

Well, the day has arrived - or at least the night before. I'm traveling to the other side of the planet for business for a couple weeks. It's the first place I've traveled to where I don't speak at least some traveler's version of the language. Hence, the rumblings - in my stomach that is. I'll admit, I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

Rather than send out bulk e-mails to you friends and family, I thought I would try my hand at a blog. A friend at work did this when he made a trip to Moscow a couple years ago.

This blog should let me post photos and hopefully share a funny story or two with you. Also, it let's YOU decide when and if you want to check out what's going on with me, rather than me having the audacity to think that you want some kind of a semi-daily update from me in your in-box.

So - watch this space (if you want to) - I might remember to post some other comments and photos of the adventure.

Oh, by the way, I think I should be able to Skype you from the Hotel that I'm staying at. At least I can give it a try. Skype let's us talk to each other through our computers. I can also call your home phone with it - but since I'll be 12 hours out of phase with you, I probably won't try too often.

Scott,
Thanks so much for the updates. Your plane seats looked a bit nicer than the ones I had to fly over there 11 years ago!
I also had to laugh when I read your bone comments. I struggled with that too. The worst for me is when we were at someone's house and then made this "delicacy" of some type of scorched mini bird (like the size of a chickadee). You were to pick it up w/your chopsticks and just start chewing. The host was just sitting there starting at us saying,"You like? You like?"
I'm praying for you. I'm sure it is hard to be away from home, but you may never be back...soak in the cultural experience.
I love you,
Heidi
